Supervisor Reasonable Suspicion Training

We offer a two-hour online course, A Supervisor's Guide to Reasonable Suspicion Testing designed to help supervisors recognize the signs and symptoms of drug and alcohol use and teach confrontation procedures. Each course includes step-by-step confrontation processes, detailed reasons for testing, refusal to test information, a chart of drug and alcohol retention times in the body and a list of community help lines. PDF files providing more detailed drug information and other pertinent topics are accessible with a mouse click. Chapter quizzes, a final exam, a Certificate of Completion as well as a CD version of the manual are also included.

Five versions of the course are available:

  • Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA)- Meets the supervisor training requirements of DOT 49 CFR Part 382.603.
  • Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)- Meets the FAA mandated requirement for reasonable suspicion drug testing training found at 14 CFR Part 120.
  • Federal Transit Administration (FTA) - Meets the FTA mandated requirement for reasonable suspicion drug testing training found at 49 CFR Part 655.14 (b).
  • Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) - Meets the PHMSA mandated requirement for reasonable suspicion drug testing training found at 49 CFR Part 199.113 (a)(b)(c).
  • Drug-Free Workplace - Designed to meet reasonable suspicion testing training requirements. In addition to the information related to the signs and symptoms of use of the five most commonly abused drugs - marijuana, cocaine, amphetamines, opiates & PCP - and alcohol, the course covers club drugs and inhalants, which are growing workplace problems.

Recurrent and Refresher Supervisor Training

  • Recurrent - For supervisors who have taken the initial A Supervisor's Guide to Reasonable Suspicion Testing course. This course meets the FAA mandated requirement for recurrent reasonable suspicion supervisor drug testing training found at 14 CFR Part 120. FAA guidance indicates this training is to be provided every 12 to 18 months.
  • Refresher - This course is designed to ensure supervisors maintain their understanding and "awareness" of the reasonable suspicion testing process. The course is revised and updated annually and includes information about patterns of abuse including prescription drugs.

Employee Training

A web-based course, Substance Abuse in the Workplace, An Employee's Guide, provides information concerning alcohol and the five most commonly abused categories of drugs - marijuana, cocaine, amphetamines, opiates and phencyclidine (PCP) - as well as club drugs and inhalants. A chart of drug and alcohol retention times in the body and a list of community help lines are also included. PDF files providing detailed drug information and other pertinent topics are accessible with a click of the mouse. Chapter quizzes, a final exam, a Certificate of Completion as well as a CD version of the manual are also included.

The following courses can be augmented in two mouse clicks to include your organization's policy so it is 100% compliant with employee education requirements::

  • FMCSA - Meets FMCSA requirements of 49 CFR Part 382.601, rules and guidance.
  • FAA - Meets the requirements of 14 CFR Part 120 FAA rules and guidance.
  • FTA - Meets the requirements of 49 CFR Part 655.14 (b) rules and guidance.
  • PHMSA - Meets the requirements of 49 CFR Part 199 (a) (b) (c) rules and guidance.
  • Drug-Free Workplace - This course provides information concerning the effects of alcohol misuse and controlled substances abuse on an individual's health, workplace, and personal life as well as the signs and symptoms of an alcohol or controlled substances problem. This training covers the indicators of abuse and misuse in depth, and meets the training requirements for programs that offer a state workers' compensation discount for testing.*

Instructor Led Training

Supervisor Training

An instructor visits your location to present a live Supervisor Reasonable Suspicion Testing class, a fully Department of Transportation (DOT) and Drug-Free Workplace compliant course. The class is two hours in length and covers workplace signs and symptoms of drug/alcohol abuse, methods of confronting the employee and necessary documentation steps.

Employee Training

An instructor visits your location to present the fully DOT and Drug-Free Workplace compliant Substance Abuse in the Workplace class to your employees. The employee education class lasts approximately 60 minutes and covers the specific conduct that is prohibited along with information concerning the effects of alcohol and controlled substances on an individual's health, work and personal life, signs and symptoms of an alcohol or drug problem, and available methods of intervention.
