DOT Delays Mandatory Use Deadline for Alcohol Testing Form
In a notice published in the Federal Register on July 2, 2010, the Department of Transportation (DOT) extended the deadline for mandatory use of its updated Alcohol Testing Form, commonly called ATFs, from Aug. 1, 2010, to Jan. 1, 2011.
The extension comes after the DOT sought comments on whether Aug. 1 was an appropriate deadline for use of the new updated form. Vendors and users of the ATFs indicated that they would not be able to deplete their current supplies by Aug. 1. As a result, the DOT decided to extend the deadline to Jan. 1, 2011, so that the stock of existing ATFs could be depleted.
A Federal ATF is required for every DOT alcohol test. Employers may use the updated ATF immediately, but are not required to do so until Jan. 1, 2011. After this date, employers must use the new ATF or face possible Federal sanction.
Verifications is working to ensure that our clients will only be using the new form after the January 1, 2011, deadline.
