On June 4, 2008, U.S. District Court Judge Robin Cauthron granted a preliminary injunction, blocking enforcement of Oklahoma’s law requiring employers use the federal E-Verify program to verify the employment eligibility  of their new hires. The judge concluded that the provisions of the law are preempted by federal immigration law.

As  a result of the injunction, Oklahoma will be prevented from enforcing the law until a final decision is reached on whether the Oklahoma law is preempted by federal law.
